Spherical Geneva Mechanism
Translates Rotary motion
to Intermittent motion.
This is a rare mechanism which is translated from a 2D surface.

The drive wheel and the driven wheel (Geneva) have been modeled in SolidWorks & then 3D printed using the Rapid Prototyping machine (RPT).

The Drive wheel rotates about a fixed axis and carries the pin through the slots of the Geneva wheel.

When the drive wheel rotates continuously at a uniform speed, the Geneva wheel rotates at an intermittent motion.

Geneva wheel rotates about a fixed axis & it's slots are located symmetrically at angles of 90deg between adjacent slots.
Both the components
have been 3D printed
using a thermoplastic
called Acrylonitrile
Butadiene Styrene (ABS)
& the mechanism is powered using a simple 9v battery.
